Software Development Cost: What Actually Drives the Number

Cost follows scope, integrations, and risk — not a blog post average. Use this as a planning guide before a real estimate.

There is no honest one-price answer

A brochure site, a multi-tenant SaaS, and a hospital operations portal are not the same job. Anyone selling a single 'software development cost' without asking about users, integrations, and compliance is selling a number, not a plan.

We estimate after discovery. The ranges below are planning bands so you can decide whether a conversation is worth your time. They are not quotes and they are not guaranteed.

Planning ranges (illustrative)

Focused MVP (one platform, limited integrations): often a multi-month engagement rather than a two-week gig.

Production SaaS or marketplace: typically larger because tenancy, billing, and admin are real products.

Enterprise workflow with SSO and several systems of record: budget for integration and change management, not only screens.

Your geography, design depth, and timeline (crash vs. steady) move the number as much as feature lists do.

What we need to estimate

Who uses the system, the first workflow that must work, systems to connect, and whether web, mobile, or both are in v1.

If you want a number this week, bring those four answers to a call. We can then give a range with assumptions written down.

This guide is educational. It is not a price quote or a promise of search rankings.
